Music love

Here's some songs I've been digging recently -

Fiona Apple - Heavy Balloon. I'm not at all familiar with her music, though I've heard her name here and there. But when I heard this song on the radio today, I was absolutely floored. So raw, so much feeling! Such imagery! Love it. This one's from her latest album, Fetch the Bolt Cutters, which was released this April. Guess I'll have to see what the rest of it sounds like, because I do so love this track. Is any of her previous work like this?

Ayrad - Sidi Hbibi. These guys are a group from Montreal. Their style is traditional Moroccan music with a modern twist. Love this song - it has such a warm and energetic sound.

Don Bryant - Your Love is to Blame. Good old blues/soul. His latest album, You Make Me Feel, dropped last month and oh, is it ever good. Love his vocals, love his sound, love everything about this. It makes me feel nostalgic - I grew up with this kind of music.

Band à Part - Nuestro Momento. Fun and energetic electronic pop in Spanish. Light, delightful, and summery.

And since I'm on the subject of music, I figure that I might as well plug CKUA once again. They're my favourite radio station; they broadcast throughout Alberta, but are of course also available online. They play a wide variety of music from a whole bunch of genres, and they make extra effort to play work from independent and small-name artists. Here, you won't find the usual "We're required to play some Canadian content, so here's Nickelback". They devote a lot of airtime to Canadian music, especially Albertan artists (though not limited to that), and that's really important to me. They also play indigenous music; there's a specific hour devoted to that, but FNMI work gets play outside of that show as well.

A whole lot of the new and awesome music that I hear comes from listening to this station.

If this sounds interesting to you, I recommend checking out their schedule and show descriptions - though remember that it's on Mountain time, so for those of you outside Alberta (which is... all of you?), you'll have to do some converting to figure out when each show is playing. Some of them are misc/eclectic, but others are genre specialized - Blues, Country, Reggae/Calypso, Jazz, Vintage 1920s-1950s, etc. Wonderful stuff.
