I went out into the forest today.

It was hovering around -30C today, which is colder than I'd like, but considering everything, I guess it was fitting. It wasn't so bad once I got into the trees, though. The forest cut the wind a bit.

There's a deer path leading down into my place. It looks like they sleep there, sometimes. There are impressions in the snow from where they curl up on the ground. But they haven't been there in the last couple of days or so.

Lots of rabbit tracks, too.

So. I sat myself down, and set up the altar, and stayed there a while. It was cold, but not too bad. Just nice and quiet.

The wind was blowing tiny bits of snow from the trees, and sending it scattering through the air down into the valley, but because it was such a fine powder, it didn't look like snow; just glitter in the sunlight, the way spider webs sometimes look when they're caught in the sun at the right angle.

I wish I'd brought my glasses. There were some cute little chickadees in a tree nearby, picking at the evergreen cones, but I couldn't see them very clearly.

On my way back I picked up a few things, some odds and ends for the indoor altar. Evergreen boughs and rosehips and dried grasses. Even a few bits of wild rose - I'll have to handle those carefully.

So. Now I'm home. And I'll have to finish cleaning this place for tonight, but... it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes or so, so I'll wait a while. I'm so tired.

Need to set up the indoor altar tonight, and do the candles. And then tomorrow again, in the morning, at around 9. And then dismantle it. And then set it up again tomorrow evening. And dismantle it again on the morning of the 22nd.

Even though it's annoying that I need to set it up and take it down, I don't mind so much that my altar needs to be impermanent/portable/packable - there's actually something kind of nice about setting it up and taking it down, incorporating that into the ritual. And this way, I can always make sure that my equipment is extra clean and tidy.

I should do a reading some time in the next few days. Maybe tomorrow morning....

There were other things I was going to write here, but I'm too tired to put those thoughts together. Some other time, maybe.
